When you meet people for the first time one of the first things they notice will be your skin. Since your skin covers your whole entire body it is obvious to everyone who comes in contact with you. Your skin is such an important part of your health and well-being that it is vital that you do everything in your power to take the very best care of it. It is amazing to consider that the skin that you are born with will be with you throughout your entire life. Skincare will have different meanings for different people because as they go through different seasons of life their skin care needs will naturally change. Children have very different skin care needs than mature adults do. Your skin care regime should age with you and be appropriate for your particular season of life.

Hydration is Vital for your Skins Health

Not enough value is given to the role that hydration has in the health of the skin. When people are looking at skin care remedies and suggestions, far too many people forget to mention how important proper hydration is. Our bodies are made up primarily of water and our skin needs water to be healthy. To illustrate the importance of proper hydration we will look at the difference between a grape and a raisin. Both begin as the same fruit. But while the grape is full, fat and supple, the raisin is wrinkled and dry. If you had to choose which of these two fruits your face resembled, a raisin or a grape, it is an easy choice. The only thing that separates the raisin from the grape is water content. This shows how important proper hydration is to our skin.

Lotions and Water for Proper Hydration

Skin hydration comes in two important ways, what you put on your skin and what you put in your body. In order to hydrate your skin from the outside find a good quality moisturizer. Look for a product that has natural ingredients and no added fragrances, dyes or colors and do not use soap to wash your face. Soap is very harsh and it will dry your skin out causing premature aging and damage.

The other important way to keep your skin hydrated is to drink the recommended amount of water daily. Some studies suggest drinking eight 8 oz glasses of water a day for a total of 64 oz a day. Other reports indicate that drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water daily. So a person who weighs 200 pounds would drink 100 ounces of water a day. No matter which method you choose to follow the important thing is to drink more water. You can not over consume water. It may take some time for your bladder to adjust to the increase in water volume and you may feel like you are running to the bathroom for a couple weeks but your body will eventually compensate and adjust and your skin will look healthier than it ever has before.
